Mahasamadhi of Sadguru Gurudas

It is with utmost grief, I would like to say that Gurudas Brahmachari has permanently left his physical body in Mahasamadhi on 6th December, 2025, at his residence in Silchar. His health was not keeping well for many months and it deteriorated further more the last few weeks. Many close disciples, devotees and relatives paid visit to him during his final days, and many unfortunate could not due to circumstances.

His siddha deha was given samadhi at the holy land of Ranibari, at his own residence due to his wish. Many devotees accompanied the final yatra of Guruji. His final rites ceremony would be conducted by his son Sriman Kishalay Bhattacharjee at his house in Silchar on 16th December, followed by full day sankirtan, recitation of Gita and Bhagavat, Narayan Puja and prasad distribution. His Bhandara Utsav would happen on 16th Jan, 2026 at Mansuka Ashram. Many devotees are doing sankirtan regularly at Ranibari Ashram for his pleasure.

Mounibaba said his dear disciple Gurudas long back that he would pass his body doing yogic kriya just like Mounibaba. And his body should not be burned but buried in Samadhi, as given to siddha yogis.

During his young days at Imphal, little Radha Krishna used to come to play with him. Gurudas, entrenched in his Naam Jap, would easily hear the footsteps of little children in his room and the whispering of two kids—one boy and one girl. With this, his mind would get drowned in deep Bhava Samadhi, shedding tears from his eyes. One day he tried to put those little children on his lap, but as soon as he tried, they disappeared, giving extreme pain to the tender heart of the young yogi. Later, when he asked Mounibaba about this, he said that Radha Krishna loved Gurudas and came to play with him. However, he would not get darshan now, or else he would have to leave his physical body. Extremely elated Gurudas, yet totally devastated, took a vow and asked for a boon from Mounibaba that during his final days, Mounibaba should come with these two little children to take him back to his abode.

Gurudas used to say, “I don’t have death,” meaning he had surpassed the cycle of birth and death by his guru’s kripa. Gurudas attained his first Savikalpa Samadhi while doing pranayam during his Imphal days in the 1970s. As per his words, “While doing kumbhak, the entirety of prana was brought back to the head, crossing the Rudra Granthi.” “During Savikalpa Samadhi, the sense of ‘I’ still exists, but during Nirvikalpa, that too doesn’t exist.” He practiced Raja Yoga under his guru’s guidance and mastered it as well, attaining Nirvikalpa Samadhi one day, when people found his body lifeless for around two hours. He said, “Suddenly I saw a yellow light engulf me from the back of my head, and I lost myself totally.” When one attains perfection in samadhi, or samadhi siddhi, i.e., going into samadhi at will anytime, then one attains the status of Sadguru. Only such a person has the capacity to liberate others under the authority of God. He used to say, “Samadhi, or Nirvikalpa Samadhi, is not that difficult; you can easily attain it and stay there for long by your guru’s grace. But the main thing is to attain prema for God. That is the ultimate desired attainment for a devotee. Yoga is only to understand God practically.”

Young yogi Gurudas attained tremendous success in Yoga by the grace of Mounibaba. His body used to levitate in the air during sessions of kumbhak, and many times he hurt his body when it struck nearby objects. Mounibaba advised him to apply Jalandhar bandh to stop the uncontrolled levitation. Mounibaba also denied him permission to reach very high stages during samadhi. Mounibaba taught him how to take oneself completely out of the body in Nirvikalpa Samadhi, but did not teach how to return back, which is very risky, leading to actual death unknowingly by accident. However, due to his extreme determination, Gurudas continued doing his yogic kriya safely as instructed by Mounibaba and attained Purna Siddhi (Tattva Jnan) during the 1990s after the Mahasamadhi of Mounibaba. He built a small ashram in Ranibari and continued his sadhana there.

Gurudas was a Prema Siddha Vaishnav and people witness his 13 hours long Bhava Samadhi during Kirtan of 1989. People struggled to control his body endowed in Asta Sattvik Vikar (8 transcendental symptoms of Prema). He was always drenched in the pastimes of Radha Govinda and many pastimes used to manifest in his divine eyes always. He would continue to stay in his gopi swarup after his Mahasamdhi in Nitya Vrindavan, always serving the Yugal Kishore. He once expressed in Bhava about his transcendental swarup of a young gopi of 12-13 years, serving Radha Krishna and Srimati Rupa Manjari is her guru. He avoided further questions skillfully, on being asked. Mounibaba also shared that both the brothers are incarnation of Nityananda Prabhu of Gour Lila.

Mounibaba once told that Gurudas and his younger brother Kushi have Shiva Swarup. One day in Aishwarya Bhava (mood of spiritual opulence) Gurudas said that people only see the outer physical appearance. They do not see who is/are inside this physical body. Praying to one’s guru, all devatas are satisfied who stays in the body of Guru. First one attains Shiva Jnana, then Atma Jnana followed by Brahma Jnan. Adi Shakti is always active inside the body of Guru. Your Guru is Para Brahma, there is no difference. He is everywhere. Everything can be attained by devotion to him. Again when the mood of opulence falls down, he transforms into the mood of Radharani as the most humble servant of the servants of God.

It is very difficult to understand one who is a Sadguru. Only by his mercy, the lucky disciples and devotees are able to understand only a fraction of the reality. Total faith in one’s guru is the only and foremost requirement to cross the ocean of birth and death. In the darkest time of Kali Yuga, finding good Satsang is very rare and even rare to find a Sadguru, and getting faith and trust in him is even more rare.

Though we have not seen him passing into Maha Samadhi and only found his body lifeless hours after this glorious event, we devotees assume that he passed away after completing his last meditative Mangal Arati in the Brahma Muhurta. His family members found his body lifeless, holding his japa mala, as if he had entered a deep state of bliss and peace forever. His disciples assumed he was in his Samadhi like other days, and many attempts were made to bring him back by doing omkar on his chest and kirtan. But by then, he had taken out the Maha Prana from his body through the Brahma Randhra. Even hours later, his physical body had not turned cold, unlike other deaths. Instead, the region from the navel to the head was hot. Gradually, the cold started rising upwards, finally reaching the head, which shows the remaining prana has also left, which kept the body warm so far.

Dear devotees, it is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new era, when the trio—Mounibaba, Gurudas, and Kushi Ranjan—will work together after so long for the future generations to come and bring us back to the abode of God in Maha Mukti. The message of Humanity as the religion of the Age will shine henceforth in the near future. The entire Guru Parivar is eagerly waiting for new souls to come into this lineage of God and take forward humanity towards the religion of love.
